Help is on the other end of this line!

Volunteer mediators come from many walks of life and experiences, but share the same ambition: they want to serve their community by helping people resolve conflicts. They have been trained to do this in a variety of settings involving many different kinds of disputes. A volunteer mediator receives no payment for their services.

Volunteer mediators must complete 40 hours of mediation training approved by the Michigan State Court Administrative Office, followed by 10 hours of observing actual mediations. They must then mediate under the observation of an experienced mediator to be approved. There is a fee for the training, but it is refundable upon completion of the internship and 25 hours of mediation for Dispute Resolution Services of Gryphon Place.

Mediators sharpen their basic skills by attending advanced mediator trainings and workshops offered throughout the year. Additional trainings are also available that allow mediators to take on more complicated and challenging casework.

We have a long history of relying upon volunteers! In fact, many volunteers from decades ago tell us how much they benefited from their time at Gryphon Place . We are proud of that history.

The volunteers of Gryphon Place are some of the best. Their dedication and expertise is apparent. This is probably due to the fact that every volunteer has successfully completed extensive training. Currently, we utilize the services of over 100 people.
